Broad Street bullies

Among the Creek Road Runners, four senior men ran in this year’s Broad Street Run 10 miler in Philadelphia in a crowded field of over 36, 000.

Three of the four placed within the top 25 in their respective age groups, which is remarkable in such an international field.

The fastest was 55-yr.-old CRR Bill Farquhar, who placed 21st in his five-year age group in 1:11:15*.

Just three minutes behind Farquhar was 64-yr.-old CRR Bill Rose, who finished 20th among his 60-64 peers in 1:14:20*.

With a top-ten finish in the 70-74 age group, placing 9th, the irrepressible 72-yr.-old CRR Doug Repetti clocked in at 1:31:01*.

Though not placing in the top 25 in his age group, 56-yr.-old CRR Keith Crispin finished in a respectable 1:29:12*.

First State Half Marathon standouts

On a cool, windy Saturday, March 25, 319 participants finished the First State Half Marathon, held right here in Newark, Delaware. Among the age-group winners were two Creek Road Runners.

Placing 7th overall and winning the men’s 40-49 division was CRR Andrew Weber, clocking in at 1:20:30*, just a bit over six minutes per mile.

Winning the men’s 70-and-over division was CRR Doug Repetti. Repetti finished 180th overall and 113th among the men in 2:07:09*.

Of note was the the close finish of two other CRRs. CRR Steve Tague finished in 95th overall in 1:50:52*, just 15 seconds ahead of CRR Christina Parsons’ time of 1:51:07*.

An unusually mild and damp New Year’s Eve morning greeted the runners with thick fog on this, the second Wring Out the Old, Ring in the New trail run since the pandemic struck. Thanks to CRR Bill Rose for once again organizing this annual event.

The annual Thanksgiving Day Run for MS races in Wilmington produced several notable mentions among the Creek Road Runners.

Two Creek Road Runners doubled up by taking age-group prizes in both the 10K and 5K.

CRR Bruce Weber continued to dominate the 60s age group locally by winning the 60-69s in both races, running a 40:35* in the 10K and a 20:46 in the 5K. He placed 13th overall out of 268 runners in the 10K and 31st out of 1,040 participants in the 5K.

CRR Doug Repetti, running his third and fourth races in less than a week, won the 70+ age group in the 10K in 56:56* and placed 2nd in the same age group in the 5K with a 27:58.

CRR Ann Jornlin, while not placing in the top three among women in the 70+ 5K division, did race walk to a 4th in 49:42 while pushing her grandson in a baby stroller. Her husband, Frank, and daughter, Carly, each won their respective age groups, though. Her son, Kevin, and son-in-law ran the race as well.

Another family of note created some buzz. CRR Martha Narvaez, her husband, Kevin, and three sons all ran. Her 13-year-old son, Lincoln, finished a remarkable 15th overall in the 10K in 41:09*, finishing 4th among his teen peers. Good running genes in this family too.

50th Turkey Trot results

For 50 years, the Turkey Trot races have been a local Thanksgiving tradition. On the Saturday before Thanksgiving thousands have toed the line over the years in a spirit of comraderie and competition. It was no different this year, on the event’s golden anniversary.

Two Creek Road Runners doubled their pleasure, running both the 10K and the 5K, and taking age-group honors in so doing.

CRR Dan Weile celebrated his first year in a new age group by winning the 50-54 division in 46:26 in the 10K and placed third in his division in the 5K with a time of 24:09. Ever ready to take on both races was CRR Doug Repetti, who took first place among his peers in each race, topping the 70+ division with a 56:02 10K and the 70-74 division with a 28:11 5K.

Repetti and CRR Bruce Hubbard and CRR April Anderson were each quoted in the Newark Post story about the event.

Hubbard and Anderson, both in their upper 70s, walked the 5K course, continuing their own tradition of participation in this local moving celebration. Hubbard placed 3rd among the 75-79s, and had there been a parallel division for women in the 5K, the 78-year-old Anderson would have won. As it was, she finished 4th in the 70+ women’s division.
