photo of Philadelphia Flyers mascot, GrittyThe Philadelphia Flyers’ new mascot, Gritty, has had its detractors lately. Here’s some of what CRR Matt Robinson, self-appointed CEO of Creek Road Runners, has to say about the wild-eyed, orange-haired dude on skates.

“In relation to a mascot being a part of the brand, there are many success stories of the use of a mascot as an attachment point for a franchise,” Robinson said. “See the Phillie Phanatic or, even more interesting, Mr. Celery with the Wilmington Blue Rocks.”

Robinson also pointed out the fun fact that the original Phillie Phanatic, [University of Delaware] grad David Raymond, was involved with Gritty’s design and implementation.

CRR Jeanine Radice in screenshot of videoCheck out the nice video on University of Delaware women’s assistant basketball coach, CRR Jeanine Radice.  First and foremost, she talks about her running and her competitiveness (great starter, Jeanine).  Only after that does she chat a little about why she likes coaching so much and why she likes Delaware.

Note: This video is one of several profiles, so you may have to actually select hers.

Radice doesn’t get to race much, but she has won the Blue Hen 5K at least twice in its short four-year history.

Creek Road Runners is an informal association of runners/joggers who frequent the only quiet scenic road out of Newark, Delaware.

You’re a real runner if…

acronyms like PR and DNF are verbs.

the thought of signing up for a 401K is scary.

your blood pressure is 92 over 56 and you are conscious.

you drive 100 miles to a 5K race.

you can convert kilometers to miles in your head.

your iPod has a “running” playlist.

you check out road races while on vacation.

you’ve converted your marathon medals into a wind chime.

you consider running 3 miles to be a warm up.

you know the shoe store guy better than some relatives.

you drive down the freeway and think to yourself, “Hey, my car is doing 1-minute miles.”

you know that PR stands for something other than Puerto Rico.

you use your bib numbers to wallpaper your garage.

your resting heart rate is too low to give blood.

you look forward to birthdays when your age changes to a number ending with a 0 or 5.

you consider your latest race shirt “formal wear.”

you mentally measure junk food in miles rather than calories.

you have your own name for all the local public trails.
