There were several very different races this past weekend, at which some of our contingent participated.

This was good enough to win the 50-59 age group. CRR Theresa Cannon took a third in the same age group, finishing in 1:06:58. Ms. Cannon, who has run the Boston Marathon 13 times, was recently inducted into the Pike Creek Valley Running Club’s Hall of Fame.

In Newark’s Get Lucky 5K, it was CRR Andrew Weber who finished 5th overall out of 155 runners and took 2nd among the 30-39s in 18:29. CRR Diane Kukich finished 29th overall, winning the 60-69 age group in 24:48. This time age graded to a 80.9, the highest such score of any of the participants.

In the state’s oldest race, the 55th running of the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon, CRR Kevin McCooey finished in 2:07:53 (2:07:05 chip).

Well done, all!

Three Creek Road Runners fared particularly well in the annual Reindeer Run & Romp 5K in Newark on Friday night, part of Newark’s Winterfest community event.

photo of Bill Farquharphoto of Bill RoseFifty-year-old CRR Bill Farquhar led the way, finishing 7th overall out of 1,049 participants and winning the Masters category in a sparkling 17:35. Let’s just call him CRR’s “Rudolph.” Finishing 33rd overall and winning the 55-59 age group was CRR Bill Rose in 20:15.

Coming off a long running layoff due to a foot injury, CRR Diane Kukich got back in the groove by easily winning her age group (65-69) in 25:22.

CRR Theresa Kauffman was also a notable, having placed third in the 55-59 age group with a 27:04.

And he says he’s really a short-distance guy. Not far behind him was CRR Bill Rose, finishing 21st and taking third in the same age group, in 1:05:53. Race host and CRR Ryan German clocked a commendable 1:16:59, and CRR Andrew Brett ran a 1:18:22, finishing 61st and 65th, respectively.

You’re a real runner if…

acronyms like PR and DNF are verbs.

the thought of signing up for a 401K is scary.

your blood pressure is 92 over 56 and you are conscious.

you drive 100 miles to a 5K race.

you can convert kilometers to miles in your head.

your iPod has a “running” playlist.

you check out road races while on vacation.

you’ve converted your marathon medals into a wind chime.

you consider running 3 miles to be a warm up.

you know the shoe store guy better than some relatives.

you drive down the freeway and think to yourself, “Hey, my car is doing 1-minute miles.”

you know that PR stands for something other than Puerto Rico.

you use your bib numbers to wallpaper your garage.

your resting heart rate is too low to give blood.

you look forward to birthdays when your age changes to a number ending with a 0 or 5.

you consider your latest race shirt “formal wear.”

you mentally measure junk food in miles rather than calories.

you have your own name for all the local public trails.
