Three Creek Road Runners are notable for recent achievements, two for racing and one professionally.
At the recent USA Track & Field Mid-Atlantic Region awards luncheon, CRR Bill Farquhar was honored for finishing tied for 3rd place in his age group (45-49) in the 2017 Grand Prix Road Series of races and finished 3rd in the 2017 Off-Road (i.e., cross country) Series. CRR Keith Crispin finished 3rd in the 50-54 age group in the Grand Prix Road Series. Both are members of the Pike Creek Valley Running Club.
In terms of professional accomplishments, University of Delaware professor and CRR Dan Weile has been named a 2018 Fellow of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for his work in the field of computational electromagnetics. He writes software to explain and simulate electromagnetic waves, which are patterns of interactions between charged particles.
This honor is only afforded to a tenth of a percent of IEEE’s voting membership worldwide. “To have the people who know the most about computational electromagnetics say that my work is important enough to be recognized in this way is a great honor,” Weile said.

Placing 19th overall out of 233 finishers was CRR Bruce Weber, who won the 55-59 age group and turned in a 41:00 10K time, remarkable given the super-cold temperatures. Placing third in that same age group was CRR Steve Tague, who ran a 46:42. Also noteworthy is that CRR Ryan German ran a 49:38.
On the distaff side, Dover resident and CRR Holly Scott placed third among the 55-59s in 50:57.
Fifty-year-old CRR Bill Farquhar led the way, finishing 7th overall out of 1,049 participants and winning the Masters category in a sparkling 17:35. Let’s just call him CRR’s “Rudolph.” Finishing 33rd overall and winning the 55-59 age group was CRR Bill Rose in 20:15.
Coming off a long running layoff due to a foot injury, CRR Diane Kukich got back in the groove by easily winning her age group (65-69) in 25:22.
