Once again this year, the runners at the Mayor’s Icicle Ten Miler in Wilmington got a 3.8-mile discount due to cold, icy conditions. Go figure. The race organizers again cut the course down last weekend to a 10K. Along with the Icicle race, there was also a Snowball 5K.
Placing 19th overall out of 233 finishers was CRR Bruce Weber, who won the 55-59 age group and turned in a 41:00 10K time, remarkable given the super-cold temperatures. Placing third in that same age group was CRR Steve Tague, who ran a 46:42. Also noteworthy is that CRR Ryan German ran a 49:38.
On the distaff side, Dover resident and CRR Holly Scott placed third among the 55-59s in 50:57.
In the Mayor’s Snowball 5K, CRR Theresa Kauffman won the 50-59s in 27:05, and she did do the second 5K loop as a “cool down” (literally).
In the 5K, two CRRs won their respective age groups. CRR Bruce Weber continued his 5K dominance, winning the 55-59s in 19:17. He placed 20th out of 1,481 runners. CRR Ann Jornlin, who has made this an annual event for her and her family, won the 65-69s in 28:15.
In the 8K, CRR Bill Farquhar, running his first big race at age 50, finished 97th out of 3,264 runners and won the 50-54 age group in a brilliant 29:32.
CRR Keith Crispin was not too far behind, placing fourth in the same age group in a 32:48.
In the ultra-windy Philly Marathon, CRR Andrew Weber clocked in at 3:27:39, placing 1,000th overall out of 7,761 participants.
An honorable mention goes to one of the newest of our crew, CRR Flora Poindexter, who completed her 26.2-mile journey in 6:09:01. This was her first marathon.
In yesterday’s rain-drenched Caffé Gelato Waffle Cone Ten Miler in Newark, CRR Bruce Weber placed 11th overall out of 161 finishers, winning the 50-59 age group in 1:03:29. And he says he’s really a short-distance guy. Not far behind him was CRR Bill Rose, finishing 21st and taking third in the same age group, in 1:05:53. Race host and CRR Ryan German clocked a commendable 1:16:59, and CRR Andrew Brett ran a 1:18:22, finishing 61st and 65th, respectively.
On Saturday, CRR Andrew Weber (see photo, achieving liftoff) finished 2nd overall out of 213 runners in Habitat for Humanity of New Castle County’s Halloween Hustle 5K, crossing the line in 18:01 and winning the 30-39 age group. On Oct. 22 in the annual Scott Mackler 5K, the toughest road 5K in Delaware, CRR Ryan German placed 2nd among the 30-39s and 15th overall out of 182 finishers in a very respectable 23:59.
