kukich2She loves racing, particularly when there are no men around (just kidding). CRR Diane Kukich won the 60-64 age group in the Women’s Race for the Pink Ribbon 5K in Wilmington yesterday, finishing 22nd overall out of 448 runners in 24:48. For her troubles, she won a pineapple. Here’s hoping the fruit of her labors tastes as sweet as another age-group victory.

CRR Bruce Weber

In last weekend’s B+ 5K Fighting Childhood Cancer, CRR Bruce Weber ran a 19:20. In an absolutely loaded 50-59 age group in which eight runners broke 21 minutes, Weber could only place 3rd (discounting overall master’s winner and 50-50er Greg Cauller) with such a good finishing time. Weber came in 14th overall out of over 1,100 participants in the Wilmington race.

Great job, but there are definitely too many good old guys out there.

You’re a real runner if…

acronyms like PR and DNF are verbs.

the thought of signing up for a 401K is scary.

your blood pressure is 92 over 56 and you are conscious.

you drive 100 miles to a 5K race.

you can convert kilometers to miles in your head.

your iPod has a “running” playlist.

you check out road races while on vacation.

you’ve converted your marathon medals into a wind chime.

you consider running 3 miles to be a warm up.

you know the shoe store guy better than some relatives.

you drive down the freeway and think to yourself, “Hey, my car is doing 1-minute miles.”

you know that PR stands for something other than Puerto Rico.

you use your bib numbers to wallpaper your garage.

your resting heart rate is too low to give blood.

you look forward to birthdays when your age changes to a number ending with a 0 or 5.

you consider your latest race shirt “formal wear.”

you mentally measure junk food in miles rather than calories.

you have your own name for all the local public trails.
