photo of Matt Robinson speaking at IOC HQCRR Matt Robinson, while he was the Interim Athletic Director at the University of Delaware, worked behind the scenes to help bring to the Bob Carpenter Center a showcase pre-Olympic event, featuring the women’s USA Basketball team, .

“The Delaware Sport Commission (DSC) is excited about the opportunity to work with USA Basketball again and further strengthen our relationship with the U.S. Olympic Movement,” said Robinson, chairman of the commission and sport management professor at UD. “The DSC, UD Athletics, and Gene Delle Donne worked with USA Basketball throughout the spring to get it done. It was a true team effort. As a UD faculty member, hosting such a high-profile international event fits with the University’s mission of being a global university. Finally and most importantly, it is great that Elena [Delle Donne] will have the chance to play before her Delaware family before chasing her dream of winning gold at the Rio Games.”

What Robinson neglected to mention is that it’ll be a chance for UConn/USA Coach Geno Auriemma to visit the place where Elena Delle Donne played her college ball.

CRR Bruce Weber

In last weekend’s B+ 5K Fighting Childhood Cancer, CRR Bruce Weber ran a 19:20. In an absolutely loaded 50-59 age group in which eight runners broke 21 minutes, Weber could only place 3rd (discounting overall master’s winner and 50-50er Greg Cauller) with such a good finishing time. Weber came in 14th overall out of over 1,100 participants in the Wilmington race.

Great job, but there are definitely too many good old guys out there.

The weather was a bit muggy for an early June day, but that didn’t seem to hinder three Creek Road Runners this past Sunday out on their home course—Creek Road—in the University of Delaware’s annual Reunion Weekend Blue Hen 5K. Anyway, it was a good day to have a last name beginning with the letter “W.”

photo of Bruce WeberLeading the way and placing 5th overall (out of 201 participants) was Dean of the Lerner Business School and CRR Bruce Weber, who won the 50-59 age group in 20:07. In 13th place was CRR Dan Weile, who placed 3rd among the 40-49s in 21:28. And Dean of Arts & Sciences and CRR George Watson, what do you know, came in 2nd in the 60-60 age group in 39:56. We suspect he was walking much of the way, though.
