Several Creek Road Runners enjoyed success over the past couple weekends of racing.

On Sunday, October 30, at Caffé Gelato’s Waffle Cone Ten Miler on Creek Road, five runners took age group awards. CRR Bruce Weber finished 9th overall among the 344 participants and placed 1st in his age group (55-59) with a 1:05:59 (that’s 6:06 per mile!). Finishing 15th overall, CRR Bill Rose placed 2nd in the 55-59s in 1:09:06. Three others captured age-group 3rd place finishes: CRR Dan Weile (40-44) in 1:13:34, CRR David Coker (45-49) in 1:17:01, and CRR Bob Opila (60-64) in 1:38:24.

At the Newark Country Club on Saturday, November 5, CRR Andrew Weber won the Rock & Roll 5K outright in a nasty fast 17:43. Three other CRRs notched age-group wins: CRR Dave Schultz (50-59) covered the course in 24:03,
CRR Becky George (50-59) ran a 25:20, and CRR Doug Repetti (60-69) turned in a 25:56. The husband-and-wife team of CRR Mary Braun (50-59) and CRR Rich Braun (50-59) took an age-group 2nd and 3rd, respectively, Rich finishing in 26:28 and Mary in 26:56.
CRR Lyn Henshaw of the Newark Area Welfare Committee (NAWC) requests your help to get more people registered for this event to make it a success by meeting NAWC’s fundraising goal to help 1) NAWC continue its work of helping neighbors in need in the Newark community and 2) raise the needed funds to support its Holiday Food Box program this year.
Two weekends ago in the inaugural Deer Park Goes Pink 5K, CRR Diane Kukich won her age group (60-69) and placed 48th overall out of 344 participants in 24:59.
The fastest of the CRRs was CRR Andrew Weber, who just edged out CRR Clark Ridge for both 6th place overall and 2nd among the 30-39 men. Weber ran a 5:06.2, just ahead of Ridge’s 5:07.0, in the field of hundreds of runners and walkers.
Two CRRs won their respective age groups. In 13th place overall was CRR Bruce Weber, who ran a solid 5:22.2 to win the 50-59 age group. CRR Diane Kukich won her age group (60-69) in 7:12.6. These two winners posted wonderful age-graded scores in so doing. Weber’s 91.9 was the second highest among all competitors, and Kukich scored an impressive 87.0, fourth highest overall. (Scores from 90-100 are considered world class; 80-100 is considered national class.) By comparison, Andrew Weber’s score was 84.1, and Ridge’s was 83.9.
Those of us who know former University of Delaware cross-country and track and field coach CRR Jim Fischer are indeed thinking how bittersweet an honor this must be for him to be told he’ll be so received by the same institution that five years ago took away from him the job he so loved.
