The annual Thanksgiving Day Run for MS races in Wilmington produced several notable mentions among the Creek Road Runners.
Two Creek Road Runners doubled up by taking age-group prizes in both the 10K and 5K.
CRR Bruce Weber continued to dominate the 60s age group locally by winning the 60-69s in both races, running a 40:35* in the 10K and a 20:46 in the 5K. He placed 13th overall out of 268 runners in the 10K and 31st out of 1,040 participants in the 5K.
CRR Doug Repetti, running his third and fourth races in less than a week, won the 70+ age group in the 10K in 56:56* and placed 2nd in the same age group in the 5K with a 27:58.
CRR Ann Jornlin, while not placing in the top three among women in the 70+ 5K division, did race walk to a 4th in 49:42 while pushing her grandson in a baby stroller. Her husband, Frank, and daughter, Carly, each won their respective age groups, though. Her son, Kevin, and son-in-law ran the race as well.
Another family of note created some buzz. CRR Martha Narvaez, her husband, Kevin, and three sons all ran. Her 13-year-old son, Lincoln, finished a remarkable 15th overall in the 10K in 41:09*, finishing 4th among his teen peers. Good running genes in this family too.

Notably absent from last Saturday’s Turkey Trot races here in Newark was CRR Andrew Weber. That’s because he ran the Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday. The 40-year-old Weber placed 400th overall in a huge field, breaking the 3-hour mark in 2:59:44 and qualifying for the Boston Marathon in the process. Congratulations to him on a major accomplishment in his new age group.
In the Rothman Orthopedics 8K (rough metric equivalent of a five-mile race), part of the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, 52-year-old CRR Bill Farquhar finished in 29:59, 4th in his age group and 122nd overall (out of 4,130 competitors). That’s a six-minute/mile pace for this speedy senior!
Short-distance speedster CRR Bruce Weber (no relation to Andrew, except for similar fast-twitch acumen) took care of winning the 55-59 age group in 19:31. An annual racing event for her, CRR Ann Jornlin won the 65-69 age group with a 30:06.
In the 10K race, coming off having run both the
In the Run for Pie 5K in Newark on Thanksgiving morning, CRR Diane Kukich won her age group (60-69) in a solid 23:47. CRR Bill Farquhar placed 2nd in the 40-49s with a 21:43, a mere warmup to what he would do two days later. CRR Theresa Kauffman placed 3rd in the 50-59s in 26:04.
For the second time in less than a week, the two Dougs (Repetti and Ridge) won their respective age groups. CRR Doug Repetti (60-64) won in 22:56, and CRR Doug Ridge, father of Clark and CRR Claron Ridge (who also ran), posted a 24:34 on the day.
On the distaff side, it’s part of their family holiday tradition to run this race, and each year CRR Ann Jornlin seems to be on the podium. This year was no exception, as Ann took second in the 60-64s in 25:03.
