Good showing at the Mackler 5K

Several Creek Road Runners came out to support the fight against ALS in memory of CRR Scott Mackler on Sunday. Six took home accolades.

germanphoto of Bill RoseBattling it out were CRR Ryan German and CRR Bill Rose, who each turned in a 19:55 on the clock. Rose won the 50-59 age group, while German placed 3rd among the 30-39s. German finished a whisker (six-tenths of a second) ahead of Rose; they took 6th and 7th overall, respectively, out of 266 finishers.

amerphoto of Bob OpilaCRR Bob Opila captured a rare age-group victory, winning the 60-69s in 25:34. Opila was followed in that same age group by CRR Paul Amer, who took 2nd in 27:54. Good race selection, you guys!

photo of Bill RoseApparently, the Homecoming 5K (see previous post) did nothing to slow down CRR Bill Rose. Rose won the 55-59 age group in the Caffé Gelato 10 Miler here in Newark on Sunday morning in a very good 1:06:27, placing 17th overall out of 333 finishers. That’s about 6:38 per mile! Well done, Bill.

parsonscgermanThere were also a couple third-place age-group finishers among the crew. Owner of Caffé Gelato CRR Ryan German (35-39) and CRR Christina Parsons (50-54) ran a 1:09:20 and 1:25:09, respectively. German placed 25th overall.

CRR Sue Barton also completed the unique out-and-back road-and-trail course in 1:33:23.

photo of Bill Rose finishing 5KThree hundred thirteen runners finished the Blue Hen Homecoming 5K last Friday at the University of Delaware Athletic Complex. Of those, four Creek Road Runners took home awards in special categories.

CRR Bill Rose (pictured) hasn’t lost a step in a few years now and proved that again with a third place overall finish in 19:22. Finishing first in the “UD Employee/Retiree” class, business school dean and CRR Bruce Weber posted a 20:36, coming in 7th overall. Not bad for his first of two weekend races. Taking third in the same class with a 20:50 was CRR Steve Tague, coming in 10th overall.

CRR Diane Kukich took third among the females in that same class in 26:26. She would have also won her ten-year age group (60-69). CRR Mark Deshon finished 14th overall but was 2nd among the “Alumni” runners in 21:07. Had there been a 50-59 age group, Rose and Weber would have placed 1st and 2nd, Tague and Deshon, 4th and 5th, respectively.

Speaking of “what if’s,” CRR Bob Taggart (26:34) and CRR Paul Amer (30:31) would have won the 70-and-over and 60-69 age groups, respectively. Nice job, guys.

A special shout-out to CRR Nick Sisofo, who made a rare appearance on campus with a 26:54. Thanks to CRR Kathy Corbitt and her HealthyU Employee Wellness staff for organizing a fun event around Homecoming Weekend.

photo of Bill RoseCRR Bill Rose hasn’t lost a step in several years now, as is evident with his age group (50-59) win at the Blue Hen 5K on Sunday. Rose turned in a very fast 19:30 to come in 8th overall out of 266 in an unusually fast field. This was eight seconds better than his time last year on the same course.

photo of Diane KukichNot to be outdone, CRR Diane Kukich won her age group (60-69) as well, in 24:37.

taggartAgeless wonder CRR Bob Taggart may have lost a few steps, but he can still get it done too. Taggart won the 70-79 age group in 25:20.

Each of them has won their age group in this race before, so this was not a big surprise. Congratulations for consistency, you three.
