Today, three Creek Road Runners fared well in the Top of Delaware multi-sport events, held at the Newark Reservoir.
In a total time of 1:20:59, CRR Doug Repetti was the top competitor in the 65-69 age group, coming in 73rd overall out of 224 in the Top of Delaware Sprint Triathlon, a stiff test in summer heat and humidity. Repetti exited the water after the 1/4-mile swim in 14:44, covered the 11.4-mile hilly bike course in 35:07 (~19.5 mph), and finished off with the 2.6-mile run (up the Reservoir approach road, a wooded loop, the Reservoir loop, down the approach road, and up the steep side of the Reservoir hill) in 28:50.
Coming out of the water ahead of Repetti time-wise was CRR Sue Barton, who was also the top competitor in her age group (55-59), finishing 77th overall in 1:22:11. She swam the quarter mile in 12:00, did the bike leg in 38:51 (~17.6 mph), and finished with a 29:00 run leg. Barton was the 13th female overall.
In the Sprint Duathlon, CRR Rich Braun (having eschewed the swim for an additional run leg) was the second finisher in the 55-59 age group and 14th overall out of 45 competitors. He completed the duathlon course in 1:15:19. Braun was 23rd on each of the first and third legs (1.5-mile run in 10:56; 2.6-mile run in 26:46), but blasted the bike leg in 35:10 (~19.5 mph), 8th among all duathlon competitors.
Congratulations! The three of you made us Creek Road Runners proud.
Half and full, or maybe just half full.
On April 3rd, three men from our group ran the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon. At age 37, CRR Barret Michalec led the way with an impressive 1:29:10, finishing 27th overall out of 612 competitors, while 65-yr.-old CRR Doug Repetti (65-69) ran a 1:50:26, and 63-yr.-old CRR Jon Fletcher finished in 2:06:03 (2:04:57 chip).
At this past Monday’s Boston Marathon, CRR Christina Parsons set a personal best at Boston by 5 minutes and 36 seconds, coming down Boylston Street and across the finish line in 3:48:56.
Leading the way in the 5K was CRR Clark Ridge (no photo available), who placed 9th overall out of 1,785 finishers and won the 35-39 age group in a lightning fast 17:24. Coming in 20th overall was CRR Bruce Weber, who won the 50-54s in a super 18:41, just north of 6 minutes per mile.
For the second time in less than a week, the two Dougs (Repetti and Ridge) won their respective age groups. CRR Doug Repetti (60-64) won in 22:56, and CRR Doug Ridge, father of Clark and CRR Claron Ridge (who also ran), posted a 24:34 on the day.
On the distaff side, it’s part of their family holiday tradition to run this race, and each year CRR Ann Jornlin seems to be on the podium. This year was no exception, as Ann took second in the 60-64s in 25:03.
In the 5K, CRR Mark Deshon posted the fastest time of the day among the Creek Road Runners while winning the 55-59 age group in 20:50. This was a strong time for Deshon, who weathered having a shoelace come untied at the mile-and-a-half point and being dusted in the final straightaway by age-group compatriot Epi Camacho. (Deshon later found out that Camacho had won their age group in the 10K in a blazing 41:20 and was running the 5K as a cool down, more or less.) Deshon placed 16th overall out of 529 finishers.
