At least four Creek Road Runners recently poured their all into the spring’s longer, marquis running events—the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon and the Boston Marathon.

At age 37, CRR Barret Michalec led the way with an impressive 1:29:10, finishing 27th overall out of 612 competitors, while 65-yr.-old CRR Doug Repetti (65-69) ran a 1:50:26, and 63-yr.-old CRR Jon Fletcher finished in 2:06:03 (2:04:57 chip).

Congratulations to each of you!

The Caffé Gelato Waffle Cone Ten Miler, which features pretty much the entire length of Creek Road and some of its off-shoot trails (well into Pennsylvania and back), featured three age-group winners on Sunday, as well as a couple notable performances.

parsonscCRR Bill Rose came in 16th overall out of 269 participants in winning the 55-59 age group in a fast 1:08:20. CRR Doug Repetti sneaked in just under the 80-minute mark to win the 60-64s in 1:19:51. On the female side, CRR Christina Parsons took first in the 50-54 age group in a very respectable 1:22:13.

Race host and Caffé Gelato owner CRR Ryan German had a busy morning, placing fourth in his age group (35-39) and 22nd overall with a 1:11:22 effort, finishing second among the Creek Road Runners. Then he helped serve the post-race brunch! CRR David Coker, the third CRR to finish, ran an impressively steady race, placing 35th overall and a solid fourth in the 45-49s in 1:14:48.

Congratulations to all Creek Road Runners who finished, especially with the difficult uphill climb at the end.

Creek Road Runners always show up for and show well in the Delaware Marathon relay. Last weekend’s race was no exception. Led by CRR Bill Rose, who ran a blazing fast 43:46 initial 6.55-mile leg, the 2015 edition of the Creek Road Runners team finished 8th overall out of 132 teams in the Refuel with Chocolate Milk 4 Person Relay. This was also good for a coed senior division win. The team’s total time was 3:11:47.

Leg two was carried by CRR Christina Parsons (52:48), who three weeks earlier had run a PR in the Boston Marathon. A last-minute substitute for an injured CRR Mark Deshon, triathlete and CRR Steve Tague turned in a 49:16. Back in racing form again, CRR Bill Farquhar brought it all home with a strong 45:55.

photo of Natalie RosenbergIn the half-marathon, CRR Natalie Rosenberg finished 68th overall (out of 1,159) in 1:41:50, placing 4th in her age group (25-29). CRR Dave Schultz just squeaked under two hours with a 1:59:37. Wife CRR Christine Schultz came in a few minutes later at 2:05:52.

Congratulations to all!

State Wolfpack team to a second place finish. Sam has been running well at the DI level and ran the 8K course outside Charlottesville, Va., in a stunning 23:25 (that’s in the neighborhood of 4:41 per mile on a cross-country course).

You’re a real runner if…

acronyms like PR and DNF are verbs.

the thought of signing up for a 401K is scary.

your blood pressure is 92 over 56 and you are conscious.

you drive 100 miles to a 5K race.

you can convert kilometers to miles in your head.

your iPod has a “running” playlist.

you check out road races while on vacation.

you’ve converted your marathon medals into a wind chime.

you consider running 3 miles to be a warm up.

you know the shoe store guy better than some relatives.

you drive down the freeway and think to yourself, “Hey, my car is doing 1-minute miles.”

you know that PR stands for something other than Puerto Rico.

you use your bib numbers to wallpaper your garage.

your resting heart rate is too low to give blood.

you look forward to birthdays when your age changes to a number ending with a 0 or 5.

you consider your latest race shirt “formal wear.”

you mentally measure junk food in miles rather than calories.

you have your own name for all the local public trails.
