CRR Christina Parsons flashes that smile of accomplishment after finishing her first marathon.

Three CRRs celebrated Delaware Day by braving the December 7th cold and completing the Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon; three others ran the half-marathon.

CRR Christina Parsons finished her first marathon in under four hours, clocking in at 3:55:32. This placed her 13th in her age group (45-49) and 280th overall, out of 806 finishers.

In the half-marathon, CRR Dan Simmons posted a 1:37:45 to win the 65-69 age group, coming in 75th overall out of 1184 finishers! CRR Theresa Kauffman finished 9th among the 50-54s and 256th overall with a 1:50:34. CRR Rachel Strickland finished in 2:31:45, plus she ran along with Parent to help her finish the marathon, despite some painful tendinitis. A good day’s work.

At the PNC Bank Run for MS on Thanksgiving Day, there were a few standout performances by Creek Road Runners.

photo of Dan SimmonsCRR Dan Simmons could’t quite pull off his second double win in six days. However, he did win his age group (65-69) in the 10K with a 44:17. Simmons took second in his age group in the 5K by running a 22:41. Time for a well-earned rest…. Oh, yeah, there’s a cross-country race on Saturday. Simmons will undoubtedly be out there competing once again.

CRR Ann Jornlin, who converted to cycling as her primary sport several years ago and biked across the country this past summer, runs this race annually in what has become a family tradition. She won the 5K in the 60-64 age group with a 26:24. Ever-steady CRR Theresa Cannon-Kauffman won the 50-54 age group in the 10K with a 50:17.

An exhausted CRR Matt Robinson poses for the press, having just received the sponsor’s top award for winning the race.

Happy Thanksgiving to Creek Road Runners near and far. Here is a late-breaking result….

Self-proclaimed Creek Road Runners CEO CRR Matt Robinson won the “Entenmann’s Adams Run Development Turkey Trot.”

Robinson held off a stiff challenge from nine-year-old Maggie Robinson and 11-year-old Patrick Robinson. Matt gloats, “The Robinson family strategy [was] whoever beats dad does not get a donut. This was a more humane strategy than last year, when I pushed daughter Maggie into the neighbors’ hedge in the final 30 yards of the race.”

Here’s hoping that the elder Robinson will “compete” in this year’s “Wring Out the Old, Ring in the New” trail run at Fair Hill, held annually on December 31. The rest of the assembled field will be counting on him for some more levity.

Brond talks turkey…and running

photo of David BrondThere was a nice opinion piece promoting running in the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle yesterday, written by our own CRR David Brond (CRR’s “Peach State Branch”). Check it out. Gobble, gobble, run, run!

Though Brond mentioned some other Turkey Trots, he failed to mention the local one here in Newark, which turned 40 yesterday and is becoming more and more of a Thanksgiving running tradition (read below).
