The 2023 USA Track & Field national Cross Country Championships were held on January 21 in Pole Green Park near Richmond, Va. Four Creek Road Runners competed in the Men’s Masters 8K race on a grassy, four 2K-laps course.

CRR Clark Ridge, competing for the Colonial Road Runners, finished 75th overall among the 174 masters competitors in 31:36. He was 24th among his 40-44 peers. Ridge is the son of CRR Doug Ridge.

Running with the Greater Philadelphia Track Club, CRR Bruce Weber was our second fastest runner. He finished 87th overall in 32:30 and placed 11th out of the 29 runners in the 60-64 age group. His age grade score was 80.1, which is considered “national class.” By age grade, Weber placed 59th overall.

CRR Bill Rose, running for the northern Delaware–based Pike Creek Valley Running Club (PCVRC), placed 24th in the 60-64 age group with a 35:34, finishing 118th overall.

In the 55-59 age group, CRR Keith Crispin, also running for PCVRC and placing 24th among his age group, placed 148th overall in 38:45.

Ridge, Rose, and Crispin all had age grade scores in the mid 70s, which is considered “regional class.”

A good showing for Creek Road Runners on the national stage. Congrats to each!

You’re a real runner if…

acronyms like PR and DNF are verbs.

the thought of signing up for a 401K is scary.

your blood pressure is 92 over 56 and you are conscious.

you drive 100 miles to a 5K race.

you can convert kilometers to miles in your head.

your iPod has a “running” playlist.

you check out road races while on vacation.

you’ve converted your marathon medals into a wind chime.

you consider running 3 miles to be a warm up.

you know the shoe store guy better than some relatives.

you drive down the freeway and think to yourself, “Hey, my car is doing 1-minute miles.”

you know that PR stands for something other than Puerto Rico.

you use your bib numbers to wallpaper your garage.

your resting heart rate is too low to give blood.

you look forward to birthdays when your age changes to a number ending with a 0 or 5.

you consider your latest race shirt “formal wear.”

you mentally measure junk food in miles rather than calories.

you have your own name for all the local public trails.
