Getting his kicks in the Olympic-distance triathlons this summer is CRR Steve Tague. Not sure if he’s scheduled yet for an August event, but he competed in both June and July in 1.5K swim–40.5K bike–10K run events.
On June 7, Tague did particularly well in the Escape the Cape Olympic Triathlon in Lower Township, N.J. (next to Cape May). He finished 80th out of 500 competitors and won the men’s 65-69 age group. Among his age-group peers, he had the top swim time (22:54), the second fastest bike (1:06:13), and the fourth fastest run (55:54)—and with transitions a total time of 2:33:11.
More recently, on July 19, Tague competed in the New Jersey SuperTri Olympic in Long Branch, N.J., again finishing second among the 65-69 men’s age group. However, he was a bit disappointed, as his times were not as fast as in the Escape the Cape. He again started out well with the second best swim (29:48) and bike (1:14:35) times in his age group. His run was sixth best (57:26), which along with added transition time gave him a 2:47:18 total.
Not too shabby for a senior! I think we can all agree that it’s pretty impressive.
